KIOSK Tour Screenprints by Artist Emma Hardaker

The East Leeds Project are excited to share our first commissioned edition, by Leeds-based artist Emma Hardaker. Each one of these four prints celebrates a venue visited by our mobile makerspace KIOSK, also designed by Emma, and some of the artists we’ve been lucky enough to work with on KIOSK’s tour of East Leeds in 2021-22.

These beautiful, hand-pulled screen prints combine the simple geometric abstraction shapes and repeat patterns of retro music posters with KIOSK’s signature, Turkish-inspired graphic motifs and fresh, contemporary colours.

Printed in an edition of just 20, each screenprint is individually signed and numbered by the artist.

Screen prints are made by pushing ink through gaps in a fine mesh screen that has had a stencil applied to it using an exposure unit and light sensitive emulsion. In hand-made prints like these, each colour requires a different screen, a laborious and skilled process that results in very slight differences in the surface of each print, adding character and texture.

Printed at The Art House in Wakefield with the assistance of print studio technician Ellie Way, the prints are available individually or as a set. Profits will help us keep KIOSK on the road through 2022 so that we can keep bringing hands-on creativity to communities across East Leeds.
